Our next meeting is Monday, May 5, 2008 at 6:30PM at McFadden Manor.  We are hoping the Mayor will be able to join us.  We will keep you posted on that.  At our last meeting we decided to have a bar-b-que and yard sale to raise money.  We are thinking of a yard sale in June and the dinner in October.  We need your help and ideas, so join us on the 5th and give us your input.

I hope you read the article in the Malden Observer regarding our last meeting.  We were very fortunate to have Arlene McGuire and her brother Paul McGuire join us and share information about the “old days”.  Arlene’s and Paul’s grandfather was James McFadden, who was superintendant of the Manor in the 20’s through the 40’s.  The facility was named after him.  He did many wonderful things during his tenure.  Their father was superintendant in the 50’s-60’s.  They grew up at McFadden and  shared many stories and photos from that time.  They will be joining us in the future. 

Don’t forget to keep talking to the Mayor and City Councilors and letting them know we need to keep McFadden open and we DON’T want it privatized.  We need your support.

We are very fortunate to have the support of Arlene McGuire, Jim McFadden’s granddaughter!  She has many stories about McFadden Manor when her grandfather was supervisor of the facility back in the mid 1900’s.  She is also going to bring some photos.  Come hear about the facility and what it was like back then.  Her grandfather did some pretty interesting things for residents of the community in addition to the residents of the facility.

The next meeting of Friends of McFadden will be Monday evening, April 21 at 6:30PM at McFadden Manor, 341 Forest Street, Malden, MA.    We have been fairly busy behind the scenes and want to give you updates.  Many of you have called and asked when the Mayor will return to one of our meetings.  I have a call into him and will let you know as soon as I do!!!

We have just learned that McFadden Manor is hosting an open house on May 14, 2008 from 6-8PM.  Proceeds from this event will benefit the residents, so please make every effort to attend.  There are some interesting items for the raffle!  Members of Friends of McFadden will be there to answer any questions.  See you there!
