As of today, we have learned the Senate approved the Geriatric Authority bill and the House is close to approval.  Then it’s on to the Governor…..and finally will be passed!  Then on to the more difficult route…….getting approval by the Department of Health to transfer the license to the Geriatric Authority.  We will have to substantiate we can financially support McFadden Memorial Manor over the next 3-5 years.  As we have told you, headcount has been down and we need to let everyone know the Mayor will not be closing the doors……we intend to keep the doors open and let our loved ones remain in their home.  To do so, we need to find innovative ways to raise money to support the facility until we can get the headcount back to capacity.  We need the support of each and every citizen and businessperson in Malden and the surrounding communities to help us make this happen.  Let us not lose sight of our most important reasons for doing this…..each and every resident of  McFadden Memorial Manor  as well as the supportive and nurturing staff.  So join us at our next meeting, Monday, December 8 at 6:30 PM at McFadden Memorial Manor, 341 Forest Street, Malden, MA.   Hope to see you there!  E-mail any questions to friendsofmcfadden@verizon.net.

McFadden Memorial Manor’s annual Fall Fair is Friday, November 21 from 2-4PM and on Saturday, November22 from 10AM-1PM.  There will be lots of baked goods for sale, white elephant and raffles.  The donated baskets that are raffled off are professionally done by our artisans and usually command great accolades.  So come in and see what’s for sale and what’s for raffle.  As usual the proceeds benefit the residents’ fund.  You should be able to meet many of our residents as they puruse the sale aisles.

The Friends of McFadden will have a table and many of the members will be available to provide updates.  So come on  down, bring your family and enjoy an afternoon of shopping!  Hope to see you there!

Our next  meeting is Monday, November 17 at 6:30PM.  We hope to have a definitive answer on the geriatric authority as well as our plans to raise money.  So keep up your support and bring your ideas for getting us some big money to keep the facility open!
